Specialty Classes Home / Academics / Specialty Classes Get More From Your Child’s Education Our diverse curriculum gives our students a well-rounded private school education, with classes that help them grow in all kinds of ways. Specialty classes let students explore their interests, try new skills, and discover what they enjoy! Classes include Spanish, music, art, library and media, etiquette and character workshops, physical education, and technology. Each program is planned to meet national standards and support all areas of our students’ growth. By taking part in these courses, our students become curious learners who are prepared for what comes next. Learn More About Our School Spanish Our students learn Spanish for speaking, listening, and writing. They connect what they learn with real-world experiences. They see how knowing another language can help them understand another culture and better communicate with people from around the world. Our goal is for our students to go beyond learning these as just subjects and become comfortable using them in real life. They practice by speaking with friends, singing songs, and reading books. Students also make traditional foods, learn native dances, and create art in the style of a specific country or artist. Geography and history are also part of our program. Music Our students explore the basics of music, try different instruments, use technology, and express themselves. Our teachers guide them step-by-step. They help them create, perform, enjoy music, and build their appreciation and skill. Our students learn about rhythm, melody, and how sounds blend to make music. Through group performances, they learn to work together and gain confidence on stage. Art Park Maitland’s art room is brimming with color, creativity, and artistic expression. Our students work with different materials to draw, paint, sculpt, and much more. Our teachers guide them in building skills like creative thinking and problem-solving. Students study the work of artists such as Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, and Matisse. Their experiences come to life as they discover details about the life, style, and work of each artist through our Art History program. Our students also enjoy our clay studio which includes an electric kiln and a pottery wheel. Library & Media Our libraries assist in inspiring the love of reading that is so common with our student body. Our students enjoy guided language instruction and our reading programs and materials. Our vast selection of books and resources provide many opportunities for each child to explore literature. Etiquette & Character Workshops Our students learn important social manners and etiquette. Our Character Development program teaches them how to solve conflicts that can be encountered in the real world. Physical Education Our students learn about the importance of staying active and making healthy choices for a happy and balanced life. They practice making good choices for self-expression and positive social interactions. Our students do activities like running, jumping, and team sports to build their strength and balance. By working with each other, they also learn teamwork and how to support their friends. These skills help our students feel confident and strong as they grow. Classes are held by grade level in our 4,500 square foot gym. Technology We use technology to find, sort, and share information. Our students learn skills such as coding, typing, and using tools like word processors, spreadsheets, and graphics. They also learn how to be responsible with technology, as they work with others and use their digital skills to explore new ideas. Our students see how these tools can help them solve everyday problems. As they explore, they gain the confidence needed to take on more advanced skills.
